In the state of Virginia, Pathways offers services through it’s wholly owned subsidiaries, Family Preservation Services, Inc. (“FPS of Virginia”).

Established in 1992, FPS of Virginia is licensed by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). We are the largest private provider of community based services for children and families in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Through local, state and federal funds, FPS of Virginia provides a continuum of home, community and school based programs including: Intensive In-Home Services, Home Based Counseling, Therapeutic Day Treatment, Mental Health Skill Building, Substance Abuse Services, Adolescent Sex Offender Services, Parental Sensei Services, Outreach, Surveillance Services, Supervised Visitation and Therapeutic Mentoring. Our Virtual Residential Program (VRP©™) is a distinctive service designed to provide families, schools, and communities with a diversion alternative to unnecessary out-of-home placements and/or to expedite successful step-down of youth following residential or psychiatric placements.

Family Preservation Service’s (FPS) mission is to ensure the provision of accessible, effective, high quality community-based counseling and social services as an alternative to traditional institutional care. FPS is dedicated to ensuring that all clients have access to professional community-based care, proven treatment methods and comprehensive service planning. FPS offers a wide variety of programs across the country, and all share a primary commitment to provide care that builds upon clients’ strengths and responds to their concerns.

Our primary services are varied, and we are continually creating new programs in response to identified needs in a particular area. The common thread is that we provide counseling and support services in home- and community-based settings and we emphasize the strengths and uniqueness of each youth and family. We do not own or operate any hospitals, residential treatment centers or group homes. All services are offered by trained therapists and paraprofessionals under the direct supervision of licensed clinicians.
